The King of Chu and the King of Fan had an affinity with each other. Since the establishment of Fan, its national power had been declined gradually. In the war age of spring and autumn, law of the jungle prevailed among countries. To be a small kingdom it was very difficulty to survive.
That year, the King of Fan guested on the State of Chu. He sojourned for months without any idea of returning. Someday, when he chatted with the King of Chu in the palace, sad news came in – the State of Fan had been occupied.
At the beginning, all people doubted if it was true. However, there were three messages coming in back to back, forcing the King of Chu and King of Fan had to believe it.
The King of Fan felt nevertheless calm about the situation of his state. He knew that sooner or later it would happen to him. It was impossible to stop it.
When the King of Chu consoled this relative, the King of Fan said instead, “The government of Fan has vanished, which actually is not a big deal to me. You look. I live well, don’t I?
The government of Fan, an outward thing to me, has been died out but I don’t die for it.
If the inference is right, then you have nothing to do with the existence of the State of Chu also. Chu couldn’t guarantee your life. At the same time it couldn’t prevent you from death. In this viewpoint, all objective environments are not so vital to us.
Rise and fall of Fan or Chu are the changes of objective environments, which are beyond our management.
In the viewpoint of subjective conditions, you think the objective conditions, so they do exist. If you do not think them, then they are gone as if they do not exist, at that time they have no influence on you.
Therefore, the existence of the objective conditions has something to do with your heart. You keep them in your heart, they exist. You don’t keep, they are gone or disappear.
As far as I concern, the government of Fan is a load, or a burden. Now it is good news to me for it has been transferred to other. Let it disappear in my heart so I need no longer to care about it. Why do I feel sad?”
