A man really understands the essence of life; he will not be encumbered by the things that are futile.
A man really understands fate; he will not be controlled by the useless knowledge.
Most people strive for various objective conditions in their whole life in order to maintain their bodies in good condition. However, the facts prove that many rich men possessed of abundant wealth, plentiful food, splendid clothes and luxury house but physically, they are weak and sickly. They become a real chronic invalid inevitably.
Of course, if we give too little care to maintain our body, it is impossible to keep long life.
Though many people spend much time and money on taking considerate care of their body, sooner or later they are not able to escape the death. At this rate, we know that life and death are actually beyond our control.
Common people always think that they can keep life in good condition as long as they take good care of their body. If someday they find that people are in vain to control life and death despite of their great efforts, then, what would they bustle for?
On the other hand, even we know clearly that any effort that we made is futile; we still have to do something in keeping our life. This phenomenon is called “Inevitable Maintaining”.
It is like that the men of practice clearly know that eating something means killing something and killing is wrong. However, if we don’t eat, we will die. Therefore, we still eat something, though it is wrong.
Under the condition of “Inevitable Maintaining”, the method to abstain from futile things and not let them encumbering life, is to seek and do nothing about fame and worldly affairs.
Seeking and doing nothing make our life free from confinement so that life can obtain sound, tranquil and peaceful mind.
The soundness, tranquilness and peace are the life style that a man of practice should have. Only living in such environment, can he get close to Tao.
Shouldn’t a man give up worldly affairs and life?
By giving up worldly affairs, he doesn’t make his body toil. By giving up lingering of life, he doesn’t waste his vital energy.
When he doesn’t toil his body and waste his vital energy, he integrates himself with heaven. His practice is regarded as a success.
Heaven and earth are mothers of all things in the universe. When material combines with self-nature, Buddha-nature, Qi, calmness and refinement, our bodies come into being. When they separate, the material that constitutes our body is apart and recovers to its original form.
He who can maintain his body and keep his vital energy is named as “Potential for Transformation”.
Don’t insist on long life of a hundred years; don’t insist on the form of fate. Live through the time that it should be. Rest on the environment that you come across. Don’t waste too much time to prolong life and change fate.
To be a man in this world is a precious chance. We should seize this precious opportunity to enlighten our self-nature, Buddha-nature, Qi, calmness and refinement. If we can practice to reach the level of being the one with Heaven and Earth, we are out of transmigration and our lives are worthy.
